MONDO CUISINE is owned by Carolina Calderón, a former Salvadorian diplomat who has lived in different parts of the world. She has loved cooking since she was a child, influenced by a father, also a diplomat, who could be described as a true “foodie” at a time when the term had not been coined.

When she was growing up she would beg to be taken to the market and would quietly sneak into the kitchen to try and reproduce some of the simple dishes she saw being prepared by the cook. In the process she suffered a few burns, which is not surprising, since the stove and the kitchen counters were at the height of her nose, but she would never tell anyone of these incidents, so as not to be banned from the kitchen.  As she was growing up, she continued to be exposed to all types of ingredients and ways of cooking in her father’s different postings, until she practically took charge of entertainment at home, when her father became Ambassador to the United Kingdom.

When she became a diplomat herself, she did all her own official entertainment, from beginning to end. No help at all. After so many years of experience she has decided to make a business out of her passion, with the full knowledge that there is no better time and place to strike a good deal, discuss a difficult issue or make your friends happy, than around good food.
